Little away from Agra ... a few hours drive from capital city you find a place drowned in the chants of ''Hare Krishna''. A Holy city on the banks of river Yamuna . Ancient structures , narrow gullies, a hetrogenous mix of chaos, peace and tranquality ,antiquity and modernity....''Mathura''
. I decide to discover the holy city on foot .Wandering down the kunj gullies i figured out that there were temples all over ....everywhere i turned i tumbled into a temple old or new. The devotion of the people was quite obvious .. sound of temple bells ringing , men clad in saffron robes chanting ''radhe radhe''.Finally, landed up at vishram ghat and put my feet to rest . Some of the walls at Vishram ghat were painted with important events of Lord Krishan's life....the best known , best loved and the the most complex manifestation of Lord Vishnu.
A dilapidated haveli on the banks of river Yamuna..... |
Off for a boat ride on the gentle waves of the holy river.. |
As the sun begins to set temple bells begin to ring and chants rent the air ,small leaf boats with oil lamps float downstream......I kept on watching the floating diyas disappear in the river. An ancient city whose origins fade into the mists of history but its charms are still buried deep in my thoughts............
