Worlds tallest brick minaret " Qutub Minar "

At the break of dawn we reached Qutub Minar,  which happens to be most visited monument with footfalls of about 10,000 visitors a day. That's quite a number...after parking the car we were welcomed by drooping clusters of yellow...

Monument made of red and buff sandstone ...a sight to behold.

The monument is covered with intricate carvings and verses from the  Quran

The iron pillar stands tall without rusting.... it is certainly a wonder in itself. It bears inscriptions in Sanskrit and Brahmi which dates back to the Gupta period.

The monuments around the minaret are labyrinths of pillars , with splendid figures incised on them..This wondrous monument was built in a time span of just 4 years , 1600 years ago...! It is a symbol of Indo- Islamic architecture and it screams loud about Mughal rule in India.

I would have zipped across this complex many a times but didn't pay much attention ....if you are in the capital city squeeze in some time and do pay a visit to this architectural and metallurgical wonder..!
